saltwater sisters sea swim or cold water dip fuengirola with emma thorne lees

Welcome to the Saltwater Sisters!

A fabulous sea/cold water swimming /dip community that plans to meet regularly at the beautiful Carvajal Beach in Fuengirola with me and other amazing women.

This group started in March 2026 and is very much evolving organically. For now, we will be starting with a bit of breathwork, the dip (if you are up for it, obviously also welcome to sit on the beach), followed by gentle stretching and a hot cuppa (I’m bringing the stuff).

The intention is for this to be a fun, supportive ´come as you are´ community and let’s explore what works for us together!

Thanks for being here and do shout with any questions 🫶 (some FAQs are also below)

To join and find out when we are next going for a dip simply send me a WhatsApp – 711005716.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to bring?
Yourself, a towel and something warm to wear afterwards

What´s the format?
We meet at the free parking at the top of the beach and walk down together before leaving our stuff on the beach (pretty empty right now!), get out of our clothes, do some introductions, breathing exercises, get in in our own time/together (whatever suits you or you can also sit on the beach), swim/dip in the water for roughly 20 minutes, come out and get dried/changed, have a hot drink (I supply these) and then we do some movement and stretches to warm up and a final get together before we warm back up to the cars. Roughly 45-60 mins depending on how much we chat!

How cold is it?
March 2026 it is currently about 15 degrees. We like to think of it as refreshing! We don´t wear wetsuits but it is up to you – do whatever works for you. Obviously if you have a health condition please do err on the side of caution. All those that join are responsible for their own safety.

Do you go if it is raining?
If it is a fine rain or drizzle we may still go out, but not if it is more than that as our stuff will get wet. I will message in the WhatsApp group to let people know if we are going ahead or not. Strangely the water feels warmer when it is a colder or even wet day 🙂

Do you swim out and back?
You are welcome to do whatever works for you, we mainly swim a little bit and then bob around in the water.

Who can join?
All women are very welcome! We are an inclusive and friendly group.

What are the benefits of cold water swimming?
Personally I love that it makes me feel invigorated and alive and buzzing all day afterwards. As someone who can spend a lot of time in my head, it is great to really connect to my body and also get out of my home where I also work! As someone who has also had challenges with my mental health and menopause I find it really boosts me in so many ways and others have said the same too.

Experts also say that cold water helps with boosting our immune systems and our mood. Brief cold exposure increases dopamine and noradrenaline, which can leave you feeling more alert and surprisingly upbeat afterwards.

It may also support stress resilience. Regular, short bursts of cold act like controlled stress for the body, which can help your nervous system become less reactive over time.

There’s some evidence it can reduce inflammation and muscle soreness, which is helpful if you’re active or navigating midlife aches. And many women report improved circulation and better sleep when they keep it consistent (though not right before bed!!)

What´s the cost?
It is currently free as I experiment with the group and what works for us all, it may evolve as time goes on.

If you have any other questions at all, please do reach out – WhatsApp – 711005716 or email hello@emmathornelees.com

Really hope you can join us soon!

Take care,

Emma
