Welcome to the Saltwater Sisters!

You don’t need another thing to add to your life.

You need to feel like yourself again.

Saltwater Sisters is a simple but powerful ritual –
where women come together to do something brave, wake up their bodies, and reconnect to who they are.

This isn’t about swimming.
It’s about who you become when you step into the water.

🌊 What it feels like

You arrive maybe a little unsure…
and leave feeling different.

  • Awake – not groggy or already behind
  • Clearer in your mind, less noise
  • Energised in a steady, grounded way
  • Proud – “I did something hard”
  • More present in your body, not stuck in your head

It’s not just invigorating.
It’s identity-shifting.

You start to think:
“I’m someone who shows up.”

🤝 You don’t do this alone

This is the part people don’t expect – and the part they often love most.

  • There’s laughter, not pressure
  • No one cares how long you stay in or how you look
  • Everyone remembers what it feels like to start
  • Shared challenge creates instant, genuine connection

For many women – especially living away from “home” –
this becomes more than a swim.

It becomes a place you belong.

As Krasi recently shared: “There´s something powerful about doing these things in sisterhood. What feels hard alone becomes joyful together”.

💬 It’s not about pushing yourself harder

It’s about something much more human:

  • Stop hitting snooze on your life
  • Do the thing you’ve been avoiding – gently, supported
  • Rebuild trust with yourself
  • Start your day choosing you, not reacting to everyone else

And slowly, something shifts.

💛 This is for you if…

  • You’re in midlife and something feels a bit… off
  • You’re holding a lot for everyone else
  • You want to feel calmer, clearer, more you again
  • You’re living abroad and sometimes feel disconnected or alone
  • You know you need something – but you’re not sure what

You don’t need to be “brave” or “outdoorsy” to come.

You just need to be willing to try.

“It is the highlight of my week. It is the time I get to forget everything and just enjoy the moment”, according to Susan.

💬 Want to go deeper?

For some women, the water is just the beginning.

Because what comes up –
the overthinking, the self-doubt, the feeling of being stuck or disconnected –
that’s where real change happens.

I also work 1:1 with midlife women (especially those living abroad)
who want to reconnect to themselves, find clarity, and feel more grounded in and excited for their next chapter.

👉 Do feel free to WhatsApp Emma on 711005716 or email: hello@emmathornelees.com and we can chat more, obviously with zero obligation.

🌿 A final thought

This isn’t about becoming someone new.

It’s about coming back to yourself –
and trusting her again.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to bring?
Yourself, a towel and something warm to wear afterwards, a plastic bag is helpful for wet swimming costumes too.

What´s the format?
We meet at the free parking at the top of the beach by Geckos and walk down together before leaving our stuff on the beach (pretty empty right now!), get out of our clothes, do some introductions, breathing exercises, get in in our own time/together (whatever suits you or you can also sit on the beach), swim/dip in the water for roughly 20-30 minutes, come out and get dried/changed, have a hot drink and snack (I supply these, please let me know of any allergies) and then we do some movement and stretches to warm up and a final get together before we walk back up to the cars. Roughly 60-90 mins depending on how much we chat!

How cold is it?
March/April 2026 it is currently about 15 degrees. We like to think of it as refreshing! We don´t wear wetsuits but it is up to you – do whatever works for you. Obviously if you have a health condition please do err on the side of caution. All those that join are responsible for their own safety.

Do you go if it is raining?
If it is a fine rain or drizzle we may still go out, but not if it is more than that as our stuff will get wet. I will message in the WhatsApp group to let people know if we are going ahead or not. Strangely the water feels warmer when it is a colder or even wet day 🙂

Do you swim out and back?
You are welcome to do whatever works for you, we mainly swim a little bit, occasionally jump in the waves and then bob around in the water.

Who can join?
All women are very welcome! We are an inclusive and friendly group.

What are the benefits of cold water swimming?
Personally I love that it makes me feel invigorated and alive and buzzing all day afterwards. As someone who can spend a lot of time in my head, it is great to really connect to my body and also get out of my home where I also work! As someone who has also had challenges with my mental health and menopause I find it really boosts me in so many ways and others have said the same too.

Experts also say that cold water helps with boosting our immune systems and our mood. Brief cold exposure increases dopamine and noradrenaline, which can leave you feeling more alert and surprisingly upbeat afterwards.

It may also support stress resilience. Regular, short bursts of cold act like controlled stress for the body, which can help your nervous system become less reactive over time.

There’s some evidence it can reduce inflammation and muscle soreness, which is helpful if you’re active or navigating midlife aches. And many women report improved circulation and better sleep when they keep it consistent (though not right before bed!!)

What´s the cost?
It is free for the first dip and then after that 5 Euros each time.

What are the dates?
Here they are for April:
